Traditional physical therapy typically involves the use of heat, cold, electrical stimulation, ultrasound and exercise to increase flexibility and strength of injured tissues. The hope is that by improving range of motion and strength of the problem area, the pain will diminish and function will be restored. Often, the patient will be seen for 4-6 weeks and perform virtually the same program each visit. Usually, the patient will experience some reduction in symptoms, but many times the relief is not complete and does not last. By contrast, Counterstrain treatment is all hands-on. The clinician assesses the exact tissues that are dysfunctional and the root cause of your pain, and then performs specific manual releases to restore them back to their normal state. No two visits will be the same, because the tissues that we worked on last visit are still fixed and today’s visit will address other tissues that still need help. We use exercise to restore the motion that the releases have now made possible. Once we have addressed all the dysfunctional areas that are contributing to your pain, you are usually painfree and we discharge you. We don’t have maintenance patients because the relief we offer has addressed the actual cause of the problem and is lasting. Just come back and see us if you hurt yourself again.
- Take a complete musculoskeletal history and learn about your goals.
- Perform a connective tissue evaluation along with selected physical tests to diagnose the root cause of your problem.
- Begin treatment with hands-on techniques. We hope to get you some relief the first visit.
- Develop a plan to restore you to the highest functional level possible. (Painfree if we can)
"Take the first step to feeling better without medications or surgery and set up an appointment to heal from the inside out. You will be totally amazed!"
"His joyful words to me were… "I can help you with that." I didn't believe he could because doctors had all told me that surgeries and medication were my only options. I had serious doubts as to whether anything could help. I went to see my PCM to get a consultation for an MRI leading up to surgery. My PCM, painted a bleak quality of life picture if the surgery didn’t go that well. She convinced me to try physical therapy once more. THAT HAS BEEN ONE OF THE BEST DECISIONS…. EVER!!!"

"By the end of my first appointment, I felt a little bit of relief in my neck. Each appointment thereafter brought more relief and I began to feel like my old self again. The entire staff is courteous, kind and professional. I never had to wait for an appointment and my insurance covered it with a modest copay. I am grateful my doctor knew of them and referred me! If you get the chance to see them, do it! You won’t regret it!"
