According to the National Health Service, chronic or persistent pain is pain that carries on for longer than 12 weeks despite medication or treatment. Your pain is real and also very complex. We will break down the most common types.
Pain is different for everyone. Understanding your pain is the biggest part of managing it. Pain tolerance is different than pain threshold. We'll educate you on how reducing the threats in your brain can aid in the healing process.
You CAN treat Chronic Pain. We'll discuss how education, Physical Therapy, regular exercise, and cognitive awareness can get you to focus on function, and put you back on a path to doing the activities you love again.
Dr. Maura O'Connor is a Chicago native with a zeal for life and a passion for treating people so they can get back to living their best lives. She earned her Bachelor's in Rehabilitation and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Northeastern University, then she trained in San Diego at the Spine & Sport clinic, focusing on Chronic Pain and accident recovery. She joined the team at Venture Physical Therapy of Maui in 2017 and specializes in orthopedic injuries, women's health and Chronic Pain at their Kihei clinic. She successfully presented an online course during COVID to a panel of medical professionals on Chronic Pain and Interdisciplinary Care.
