Why Physical Therapy Matters

Physical therapy isn't just for recovering from surgery — it's for anyone who wants to move without pain, stay ahead of the natural changes that come with age, or get back to the sport or activity they love. At Kinport Physical Therapy in Pocatello, Idaho, we work with patients at every stage of life, and we do it the way physical therapy is supposed to feel: personal, unhurried, and one-on-one.

Aging & Everyday Mobility — As we age, our bodies naturally lose muscle mass, joint flexibility, and balance, which can lead to stiffness, chronic pain, a higher risk of falls, and arthritis becoming more noticeable in daily life. Physical therapy helps slow and manage these changes directly — rebuilding strength, restoring range of motion, and retraining balance so you can stay active, independent, and confident in your body as you get older.

Post-Surgical Recovery — Whether it's a joint replacement, a rotator cuff repair, ACL reconstruction, or any other surgical procedure, a structured PT plan rebuilds strength and mobility safely, reduces scar tissue restrictions, and lowers the risk of re-injury. Our patients consistently tell us they were back on their feet, back to work, and back to the things they love months ahead of what they expected.

Vertigo, Dizziness & Balance Issues — Many people don't realize physical therapy can help with conditions like BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo), cervicogenic dizziness, and other vestibular disorders. Specific PT techniques recalibrate the inner ear and retrain the brain's balance system. Dr. Bryan Lawson is certified in vestibular rehabilitation, and our patients regularly share how much their dizziness has improved — often in just a few visits.

Sports Injuries & Athletic Performance — Whether it's a high school athlete recovering from an injury, a weekend warrior with an overuse injury, a dancer working through hip pain, or a golfer looking to improve performance, treatment is built around the specific movement demands of your sport. Kinport also offers a TPI (Titleist Performance Institute) Certified Medical provider on staff, so golf-specific treatment plans are built around the mechanics of your swing.

Chronic Pain & Nerve Pain — Rather than masking pain, our physical therapists evaluate how you move, identify exactly what's compensating or breaking down, and build a treatment plan around your body, your goals, and your questions. Manual therapy, dry needling, cupping, and compression are just some of the specialized techniques we use — matched to what actually works for you.

True One-on-One Care — You are never handed off to a technician or an assistant. From your very first evaluation, you work directly with your physical therapist — Dr. Bryan Lawson or Dr. Brock Hulsey — every single visit. Our patients often describe us as a small, family-oriented clinic where they feel genuinely known, not just scheduled.

Whatever brought you in — an aging body, a recent surgery, unexplained dizziness, a sports injury, or pain that's been building for years — physical therapy at Kinport is built around one goal: getting you back to doing what you love, in Pocatello and the surrounding area.

What to Expect at Your First Appointment

Starting physical therapy for the first time can feel like an unknown — here's exactly what happens when you walk through our doors at Kinport Physical Therapy in Pocatello, ID.

Before your visit: Once your appointment is scheduled, you'll receive a link to complete your intake paperwork and insurance information online, so you can spend your first visit talking with your therapist instead of filling out forms in a waiting room.

The evaluation: Your first appointment is a one-on-one evaluation with Dr. Bryan Lawson or Dr. Brock Hulsey, and typically runs 60–90 minutes — real time, not a rushed 15-minute intake. Your therapist will ask about your injury, pain, or goals, review your history, and take you through movement and strength assessments to understand exactly what's going on. Just as importantly, they'll explain the why behind everything — what they're finding, what it means, and what the plan looks like — because our patients consistently tell us that understanding their own body is part of what makes the care here feel different.

Your treatment plan: Based on that evaluation, your therapist builds a plan of care made for you — how often you'll come in, what techniques and exercises you'll do in the clinic, and a home program to keep progress moving between visits.

You'll always see your physical therapist — never a tech. This is the heart of how Kinport operates. The doctor who evaluates you- Dr. Lawson or Dr. Hulsey will personally check in with you at each appointment to track your progress and adjust your plan as you improve. It's true one-on-one care, in a clinic that feels more like family than a medical office.

What to wear: Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows your therapist to see and access the area being treated:

Shoulder, neck, or back issues: a tank top or loose t-shirt (athletic/sports bras work well)

Hip, knee, or leg issues: shorts, or leggings that can be rolled up

Ankle or foot issues: shorts and shoes that are easy to remove

When in doubt, comfortable/breathable wear you can easily move around in.

What to bring: A photo ID, your insurance card, any physician referral or surgical notes (if applicable), medication list, and a positive attitude!

What to ask: Come with questions — all of them. Our therapists want you to understand your body and your plan, not just follow instructions. That's part of what our patients mean when they say it feels personal here.
